The game day
Published by Julie under on 3:14 PMHi there. Tom and I had the opportunity to go to the UofU vs BYU football game. I am sure most of you know the outcome of the game. What you may not know are the little things about that day, the filling before the finale of Utah crushing BYU. So, I will fill you in on the small details, sporatically, as always.
1. At the beginning of the day, I woke up with a terrible cold and really bad ear ache. But being the person that I am I continued with my day, just a little grumpier than usual.
2.I went to a ski lesson with my mother, and not really thinking about the altitude changes, I eagerly drive up to Alta. Still minutes from the ski resort and I was in agony. I tried popping my ears, to no avail and thought that my head was going to explode at any minute. Just as we pulled into the parking lot, my ear drum ruptured. I felt much better after that (although now I feel like I am hearing everything under water). The ski lesson went really well, aside from the occasional need to wipe goo from my ear that was leaking out (gross, I know).
3.Later on, as we were driving up to the tailgate party that was before the game, Tom was like a kid in a candy store, he was giddy and kept randomnly bursting out in song (we all know that a Utah man is Tom).
4.At the tailgate party we got some swag (the best was the packets of one of my favorite candies, lemon heads) and some free food and drinks. The most interesting part of the party was when a woman in a giant SUV was trying to parrallel park and apparently decided that the little compact car wasn't quite compact enough so she help it out by slamming into it with her rear end. There was no damage on the SUV but the compact was about 1 foot shorter than it had been. ouch.
5.At the game there was some razzing back and forth from the BYU and Utah fans, all in good fun, untill some obviously drunk Utah fans started throwing stuff at an innocent BYU fans. Ever the peace maker and stander upper for the under dog, I started hollering at the drunkards to knock it off. I knew those little cougar kitties needed all the help they could get. My hollers went unheard. Soon though, the security guards came and were looking for the peanut flingers. They couldn't find them so I pointed them out and they were kicked out of the game. After that, it returned to fun razzing again.
6. For once this season, Tom didn't have a near heart attack during the game because Utah pretty much dominated most of the time. BYU attempted a rally in the 3rd quater but Max Hall (their quarterback) crumbled under the Brick wall defense of the Running Utes. Tom still did his little rituals and pounded on people when we scored (which Utah did A LOT), his voice was still gone by the end of the first quarter, he still stood the whole game, but this time, there was no hyperventalating or mutteringprayers.
So all in all, it was a fun game and I came home exhausted, sick and broken. I tried to sleep it off but woke up the next morning in worse shape than the day before. The things we do in the name of dedication.
